Bohus-Lugossy Foundation is the Official Organising Partner of the UN International Year of Glass 2022 – Hungary
Over the past 60 years, the United Nations General Assembly has paid special attention to promoting the visibility and impact of significant international cooperation and efforts, and has officially launched the UN International Year of Glass.
The International Commission on Glass (ICG), the Community of Glass Associations (CGA), the Glass Art Society (GAS) and the International Commission of Museums of Glass Art (ICOM Glass) have initiated the proposal for the UN International Year of Glass 2022.
The focus of the thematic year will be to raise awareness of the technological, scientific and economic impact of glass as a MATERIAL – the translucent glass that is the key raw material for most technological developments and whose INNOVATION will help humanity to achieve its vision of a sustainable and just society in our globalising world. Glass is also an ART FORM, with a 3,500-year history that illustrates the history and evolution of humanity.
The Government of Hungary has joined the initiative as co-author to express its commitment to the cause, which was informed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, to the Bohus-Lugossy Foundation as a member of the International Organising and Supervisory Committee of the UN International Year of Glass 2022, the official organising partner of the Hungarian programmes.
The Bohus-Lugossy Foundation participates in the MUSEUMS, ART & HISTORY working group established by ICOM Glass and takes an active role in the planning and organisation of international cooperation.
